The Adur and Worthing Festival of Rugby is planned for September and the councils say it is an exciting opportunity for the community to get involved.

As well as cheering on the national side, people will be able to take part in a variety of events themselves.

The festival has been created by a group of local partners who are keen to entice all sections of the community to get involved.

Partners already signed up include the two councils, Shoreham Rugby Football Club, Impulse Leisure, Sussex RFU and Worthing College.

Adur Council leader Neil Parkin said: “I’m very pleased to hear that the Festival of Rugby is already getting such an enthusiastic take-up from local clubs and organisations.

“There’s been a renewed focus on the sport recently with the planned refurbishment of the pavilion at Shoreham Rugby Club, so this festival is going to come at the perfect time for us and our communities.

“Even if you’ve never played before, do make sure that you give it a go over the summer and into the autumn – it’s a great way to stay fit, meet new people and have some fun into the bargain.”

A wide range of ideas have been discussed, such as beach parties, non-contact workplace rugby competitions, family events in leisure centres, food and culture/fashion experiences from participating countries and even an attempt on the world rugby ball passing record.
