Fears over exposed metal-work on East Preston beach

EXPOSED metal-work on the beach is dangerous, say residents.

Aneka Stevens, of East Preston, said she had concerns over the remains of what appear to be Second World War sea defences, on the village’s beach, which could pose a risk to children and animals.

“They have come out of the sand. It could be dangerous, as it is all twisted metal,” she said.

A spokeswoman for Arun District Council said the matter had been reported to its foreshore department.

“We are investigating this report and will always remove any dangerous items from our foreshores as a matter of urgency.

“Storms five weeks ago shifted shingle on the beach uncovering different items and we cleared a lot from this particular area on January 26.

“We thank Mrs Stevens for informing us.

“We manage 14-and-a-half-miles of coastline from Pagham to Ferring and appreciate any assistance from members of the public telling us if they see something that’s not right so we can act swiftly to remove items.”
