‘Fantastic achievement’ boosts hospital appeal

A SCHOOL’S fundraising target was smashed, with the final total more than two-and-a-half times greater than first hoped.The Towers Convent, in Henfield Road, Upper Beeding wanted to raise £10,000 for cancer charities, with any extra going to the Worthing Hospital Scanner Appeal.

In the end, more than £26,000 was raised, so the school was able to give the hospital appeal £15,000.

Mr Noakes said: “I am sure you will agree that this is a fantastic achievement. “

The scanner appeal already had £800,000, he added, and said the school was delighted to move it closer to its £1m target.

Most of the money was raised at the school’s Solstice weekend, with additional cash collected during a money mile, where loose change was placed on a tape around the school. The Solstice weekend featured back-to-back fundraising events, including a fête and daisy chain challenge.
