Families donate clothes for orphan children

English Language Homestays, an international language school based at Adur Civic Centre, in Ham Road, Shoreham, will be taking boxes of clothes over later this month to help the HIV centres there.

Jackie Verrall, managing director, had the trip to South Africa booked for November, so she asked the school’s host families whether they could donate unwanted baby or toddler clothes.

She said the response was overwhelming, with items donated including clothes, shoes and blankets.

Jackie added: “ELH has had strong ties with South Africa for many years, working with many Cape Town based English language tutors and also regularly sending aid and supporting projects on our visits.

“So, we have seen the difference that something

as simple as the donation of unwanted baby clothes can make and have been delighted by the response from our Shoreham families.

“Our challenge now is to pack them all up!”

ELH, which has been based

in the area for 11 years, places students with more than 340 host families in Shoreham, Southwick, Steyning and Lancing.

During 2014, ELH has organised more than 23,000 ‘bed nights’ in Shoreham.
