“Everybody in Steyning knew Pete, his shop was as full of character as he was,” said Mr Cooper.

“He was everybody’s friend, a true gent and a wonderful laugh. Peter was really a wonderful character within the community, touched everybody who knew him in some way – someone who stood out and was a go-to guy.

“After living in London, and working with interesting people doing various projects within stage and film he made his home in Steyning, and became a fantastic father to his son and daughter, and a lovely grandfather to his four grandchildren.

“Everybody knew him from his fantastic shop, where he literally sold everything. Peter will be sorely missed by everybody, smiling, joking, whistling – that’s how everyone will remember ‘kid’.”

A funeral will be held for Pete on Tuesday (September 25) at Worthing Crematorium.

Pete had owned Steyning Motor Spares for more than 40 years when it closed.
