Enterprise Week is set to offer a huge boost to budding businesses in Worthing and Adur

These free events are hosted at venues across the area and aim to offer inspiration to a host of potential ventures.

They are being put together by the Adur and Worthing Enterprise Hub, which is a joint initiative between Northbrook College, Jobcentreplus, Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce, Adur and Worthing councils and Worthing Council for Voluntary Services. The week begins at the Ardington Hotel in Worthing, with a launch breakfast opened by chief executive of Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council, Peter Latham.

From there, Barclays Bank is holding a financial review for business start-ups.

Among the highlights for the other days will be a talk at Northbrook College from MD of fast-rising Worthing internet marketing firm Fresh Egg on how to create effective websites.

There will also be some valuable advice dispensed on making best use of social media within business from Pete Jenkins and Nicola Cairncross at Northbrook College on Wednesday.

In addition, there be events on creating your profile and developing new ideas.

The series conclude on the Friday at Chatsworth Hotel in Worthing, with an employer day matching skills to area vacancies.

This is followed by a session from Nsure on how to be a success in business.

It includes a panel featuring James Stoner of JSPC, Adam Stafford, Peter Webb and Richard John.

Anne Feldberg, of Northbrook College, felt the events were an excellent means of people exploring creating a wide range of new businesses.

She said: “This week is for people of all ages to join in with who are looking to start their own businesses.

“We have lots of people giving their time to support this week.

“We thought the best way to do this would be to have workshops with people in the area who have made it in business and will be doing question and answer sessions.”

Launching the week at a business breakfast event at the Ardington Hotel in Worthing today (Monday, June 11), Tina Tilley, of Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce, welcomed it as a positive move towards reviving the area’s economy.

She said: “This will be great support for new and established businesses and since BusinessLink no longer run workshops or any hands-on support, there is a great need for this type of initiative and we hope that this will be the start of some programme of support for the future.

“I think we receive two or three calls each week related to people starting a new business and along with our members who are always keen to attend business development workshops there is a need for more of this type of programme.

“It is especially effective where several groups work together to produce a really valuable package. Let’s hope people join in and get this enterprising spirit converted to great business opportunities.”
