Dust up

A SHOREHAM Beach man claims dust from a building site opposite his home means he cannot open any of his windows.

Mel Cotnam, of Harbour Way, said: "The last few weeks, the amount of dust coming from the site has been unbelievable.

"We haven't been able to have our windows open during the recent hot weather and my car is literally smothered in it.

"It's a real hazard and we don't know what effect it will have on our health.

"I have reported it to Adur council's environmental health department, but have heard nothing back from them.

"I know the builders have a job to do, but the developers and the council should realise that we have to live with this constantly."

Up to 300 homes are being built in Harbour Way, with a mixture of affordable and private housing.

Adur council senior environmental health officer Bruce Reynolds said inspectors were checking the site regularly and making sure the builders hosed the ground to prevent too much dust while groundwork was taking place. It is not a health hazard, but we understand it is an inconvenience to the neighbours. We are monitoring the situation as much as we can."
