Driver seriously injured in A27 crash

A driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on the A27 this morning (Wednesday, December 23).

Police officers, ambulance crews and firefighters, from Chichester and Worthing, responded to a collision between Fontwell and Tangmere shortly before 6am.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed one person was freed from a vehicle and left in the care of paramedics, after the incident on Arundel Road.

According to PC Tom Van Der Wee, one lane was closed westbound for three hours.

In a post on social media, the Sussex Roads Police officer wrote: "All emergency services have stood down from the RTC and the road is now fully open.

"The driver of the vehicle involved has been taken to hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries. Thanks to everyone for their patience whilst we dealt with the incident."

PC Van Der Wee also revealed that a driver, 'who thought it would be a good idea to drive past our crash scene whilst filming on his mobile phone', could be punished.
