The dramatic video, captured by Tim Quinlan, shows two classic cars collide on the home straight, sending one of the drivers somersaulting into the air before disappearing over the crash barrier.

One of the car’s wheels is seen flying into the air and over the barrier, where it appears to narrowly avoid a small group of fleeing spectators.

Despite the car reportedly ending up in the tunnel below the track, it has been reported that driver Stephen Bond escaped with only a broken collarbone.

The video, taken at the 74th Goodwood Members’ Meeting, has already been viewed nearly 10,000 times on YouTube, and typical of the many comments, one man said: “My goodness!! What a lucky driver and what great marshals. I hope all is better soon :-/.”

It has also been reported that another crash happened later on the Sunday afternoon, with a driver airlifted to hospital.

Goodwood is yet to officially comment on either incident, but one eye-witness said: “It happened during the Bruce McLaren Trophy, close to the Shell Garage before the big chicane.

“One car folded in half and people were saying that the driver was walking around before collapsing. He had to be airlifted to hospital, we saw the helicopter land and then take off.”
