President Susan Saunders said: “After years of decidedly dodgy weather, Sunday, June 8, dawned without a cloud in the sky and hardly a leaf stirring in the breeze.

“Donkey rides were busy from start to finish, the beer tent sold almost every drop of beer, the tea tent ran out of cups and all the cakes were sold.

“It was a real family affair with demonstrations and activities for all generations and displays from Sussex Tornados Cheerleaders, Lancing Freestyle Karate Club, Beach Bateria Samba Band, Zumba Fitness Classes and the Shoreham Allstars.”

As part of the festival’s Strange Creatures theme, a competition was held for the best costume. Eight-year-old Tiger from Brighton, won a dragon hand puppet donated by Shore Nostalgia.

Katelyn Brown was the winning jockey of the final race on Twinkletoes, the donkey which also won race two.

It is estimated that around £3,000 was raised, which will be given out to local people and organisations.

Mrs Saunders explained: “Club members are the ones who decide on the allocation of funds, so if you would like to be involved in an organisation that puts so much back into the local community, then please get in touch by ringing 08458337356, visiting the website www.adureastlions.org.uk or emailing [email protected].”
