DOGS Trust Shoreham has welcomed a second sponsor dog to its rehoming centre.

DOGS Trust Shoreham has welcomed a second sponsor dog to its rehoming centre.

Maximilian has joined lurcher Maddie as a permanent resident at the Brighton Road centre.

The charity has 1,400 dogs in its Sponsor a Dog scheme across the UK. Difficult pasts or the need for specialist medical treatment mean it is hard to find new homes.

Dogs Trust will care for the dogs for the rest of their lives while sponsors pay £1 a week to help provide food, medicine and shelter.

Shoreham centre manager Tracey Rae said: “Max is a seven-year-old Newfoundland crossbreed who was originally a stray from Wales and came to us after living for a while at our Loughborough rehoming centre.

“He needs a special home so, although we are hopeful his forever home is around the corner, it is likely that he will be staying at Dogs Trust for the foreseeable future.

“Although he looks like the cuddliest dog in the world, he is really quite shy around new people and doesn’t like being groomed. However, he loves his carers here at the rehoming centre and enjoys nothing more than running in the sea, playing with his fluffy toys, jumping through the agility hoops and eating his treats of beef, sausages and ham.”

Maximilian cannot be walked by visitors but is available to visit every day except Tuesday, between 12pm and 4pm.
