Julie Baker, Hannah Baker and Louise Barnes (pictured) swam a mile in the Royal Victoria Docks adjacent to the Excel Arena on July 18.

Julie completed the swim in just over an hour, Hannah took 41 minutes and Louise completed it in 50 minutes.

Julie said: “Swimming a mile doesn’t seem that much of a challenge but when you get into the cold choppy waters of the Thames it certainly takes a lot of effort!”

Money raised to date, with sponsorship still coming in, totals £200. The school is a children’s charity and receives no grants or donations from local government.
