Wanted man found trying to escape through rear gardens

A MAN wanted in connection with a series of armed robberies in Worthing, Lancing and Shoreham has been detained.

Following a report that a man had been spotted in Lancing yesterday afternoon, April 9, police swiftly contained the area and began searching for the suspect.

In an operation lasting more than an hour he was eventually located in Lancing, but tried to escape by running through rear gardens. Officers gave chase and he was detained.

Detective inspector Rob Walker said: “Thanks to an alert member of the public we were able to swiftly deploy resources in Lancing and arrest a 29-year-old man on suspicion of robbery. He is now in custody for questioning.”

The arrest follows a series of armed raids in Lancing, Worthing and Shoreham last month in which takeaway restaurants, bookmakers and a Co-Op store were targeted.
