Man sought following homophobic spitting incident in Brighton

Police are seeking witnesses to an incident in which a woman was spat at whilst walking with her partner in central Brighton.

Just before 4.30pm on Wednesday, September 14, the 26-year-old victim was walking down North Street, holding hands with her partner, 29, when the suspect deliberately pushed his bike between them before spitting on the victim and walking off, police said.

Police are treating the incident as a homophobic attack and want to trace the man, pictured on CCTV, with his bike.

The suspect is a white man, aged in his 30s, with short dark hair and a beard, blue eyes and wearing a blue T-shirt, according the police.

He was on a dark grey bicycle.

PC Jack Bowry said: “The victim is particularly shocked about this incident. The worry is that the suspect may have done this before and we are trying to find him before it happens again.

“No one deserves to be spat on.”
Police asks anyone who knows the man to contact them via [email protected] or call 101 quoting serial 1081 of 15/09.
