Man 'ingests substances' following police showdown and drugs arrest in Wick

A man has been watched by police officers for three days after allegedly swallowing substances following his arrest for kidnap and drug offences.

According to Sussex Police, officers were called on Tuesday, July 21, to a report of a man being held in a vehicle against his will.

The vehicle was brought to a safe stop by police in Lyminster Road, Wick, at around 5.30pm, police said.

A witness described the incident as happening by the level crossing, and that armed police were present at the scene.

According to police, the victim was taken to safety and two men were arrested.

Police said the first, a 41-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of kidnap, drug driving, and possession with intent to supply a Class A drug. He has been released on conditional bail until August 19 while enquiries continue.

The second, a 23-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of kidnap and possession with intent to supply a Class A drug, and has been charged with charged with possession of a Class B drug, police said.

As of Friday afternoon (July 24) he remains in police custody and is being watched by officers, 'as there is reason to believe he has ingested substances', police said.

He is being monitored under Section 152 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, which gives police the power to hold him for up to eight days.
