Man armed with a machete robs shop in West Sussex

CCTV images have been released following an armed robbery at a store in Westbourne last night (Sunday, May 24).

According to Sussex Police, a man, armed with a machete, entered the Co-op store at The Square and stole cash from the tills.

Officers were alerted at around 6.25pm but the suspect was not caught.

A police spokesperson said: "Police investigating an armed robbery at a store in Westbourne have released CCTV images of the suspect.

"The suspect is described as white, 6' tall, of slim build and possibly with a blonde moustache/beard. He was wearing a balaclava, a khaki green Adidas cap and turquoise green medical gloves.

"He was wearing a zip-up hooded jumper with drawstrings, described as beige in colour from the chest upwards and khaki green colour below, with a three inch wide beige stripe down each sleeve.

"He was also wearing dark grey Adidas tracksuit trousers with three black stripes down each leg."

Officers would like to hear from anyone who recognises the man, or from anyone who may have seen any suspicious behaviour in the area at the time.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV or dash cam footage from the area.
