Littlehampton 'gunman' arrested

A man has been arrested after a reports of a gunman in Littlehampton this afternoon.

Police were called to Bayford Road at 3.55pm today (Monday, August 17) following reports of a man being seen with a handgun.

A man was arrested at 4.30pm on suspicion of firearms offences. No shots were fired and no injures were reported, police have said.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "At 3.55pm on Monday (17 August) police responded to report that a man had been seen with a handgun in the Bayford Road area of Littlehampton.

"Officers swiftly contained the immediate area and shortly after 4.30pm a man was safely arrested in Bayford Road on suspicion of firearms offences. No shots were fired and nobody was hurt.

"The investigation is at an early stage and no other information is available at present.

"He was arrested in the street, not in an address."
