Police said they were called to a single vehicle collision on the westbound Old Shoreham Road, close to the junction with Romany Close, at about 2.45pm on Wednesday, November 16.

A blue Vauxhall Corsa had left the road to the nearside and collided with a wooden fence post, according to police.

It then continued down the grass bank towards Victoria Recreation Ground, where it collided with a tree, police said.

The passenger, an 18-year-old woman from Lancing, and the driver, a 27-year-old man also from Lancing, were taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious injuries and have both since been discharged, police confirmed.

The arrested man has been bailed until December 16, pending further enquiries, police said.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened – in particular anyone who has any dash cam footage of the Corsa being driven in the moments before the collision – to get in touch.
