Driver smoked cannabis '˜day before', court hears

A man guilty of drug-driving smoked cannabis the day before being caught by police, a court heard.

Noel Mason, of Moore Close in Durrington, was driving with a passenger on the A27 in Sompting on January 10 when he tested positive for cannabis in a roadside drugs test by police.

Later tests revealed he was over the legal limit, despite the 46-year-old’s claims he had smoked cannabis the previous afternoon.

Mason was fined £250 and given a 12-month driving ban when he was sentenced at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The plasterer asked district judge Christopher James why there was a legal limit if cannabis was illegal, to which the judge replied it was prescribed to people in certain cases.
