Climping man arrested in connection to shotgun murder of 'devoted father'

A man from Climping was arrested in connection with the murder of a man in Hampshire, according to the county's police force.

On Tuesday, July 7, the 32-year-old was one of seven men who were re-arrested in connection with the death of Gurinderjit Rai in Corhampton, a Hampshire village north of Portsmouth.

According to Hampshire Police, Gurinderjit’s body was found in a car that was parked in Shepherds Farm Lane, Corhampton, near Corhampton Golf Club, on Saturday 13 July, 2019.

Mr Rai, 41, had suffered fatal shotgun wounds.

The man was then released from custody, but remained under investigation as of yesterday (July 8).

Yesterday, detectives charged the following four men with murder: Aston Hannis, 29, of Leah Gardens, Eastleigh; Corin Barlow, 40, of Lumley Road, Horley, Surrey; Charlie Statham, 30, of Crescent Close, Winchester and Paul White, 26, of Dyson Drive, Winchester.

They were set to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court today.

Previously, Mr Rai's family told The News in Portsmouth: "Gurinderjit was a devoted father to his two young children and a loving fiancé to his partner. He adored his parents.

"He had an infectious sense of humour and would always find the best of any situation.

"He was a principled man and would always be the first to offer help to those that needed it. He will be missed dearly by all his family and friends."

Along with the man from Climping, a 32-year-old man from Winchester and a 42-year-old man from Owslebury, Hampshire have been released from custody but remain under investigation.

More than 18 people were arrested in connection to the case. A man was previously jailed for refusing to hand over his Apple iPhone passcode.
