COUNTY NEWS: Man dies and another seriously injured in Sussex crash

Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses after a 42-year-old man died in a collision near Chichester.

The driver, who has not yet been named, died at the scene.

Another man is in hospital with serious injuries following the collision early this morning (July 6).

Emergency services were called to Common Road, Funtington, near Chichester, at 12.02am where a red Seat Leon heading east had collided with a westbound blue Peugeot 406.

Police said the driver of the Seat, a 42-year-old man from Fishbourne, died at the scene.

A 67-year-old man from Chichester, who was driving the Peugeot, was taken to Southampton General Hospital with multiple serious injuries.

He was described by police as being in a serious, but stable condition on Monday morning.

The road was completely blocked by the collision and was closed until just after 5.30am to allow rescue and recovery work to take place and for engine fluids to be cleaned from the road surface.
