County News: BBC film crew in Sussex town for new drama

The Richmond Room at the Assembly Hall, Worthing, has reportedly been turned into a Magistrates’ court as part of filming for new drama series Cuffs.

The crew have been based at the Adur Civic Centre for the past few weeks, which was turned into a police station.

A spokesman for Worthing Borough Council said: “Scenes for a new BBC drama - Cuffs - are being filmed in Worthing Town Hall today.

“The crew will be using a range of locations including the Assembly Hall, the council chamber and the chief executive’s office.

“The crew have been working in the Adur Civic Centre for some time, and today’s filming is a superb opportunity to show off Worthing’s town hall to the whole of the UK.”

The drama is being produced by London-based Tiger Aspect, which has credits including Peaky Blinders, Ripper Street, Benidorm, Bad Education and Restoration Man.

Cuffs is a fast-paced police show commissioned for weekdays at 8pm on BBC One, the first new drama series for this slot in more than eight years.

Writer Julie Gearey said: “As a massive fan of cop shows, I’m thrilled to create a new ensemble police series for BBC One.

“Intimate and realistic, we’ll be right on the shoulders of our cops as we follow them into every corner of lives in which work pressures don’t end at the station door.”

The series focuses on the relationships between the officers and the impact the job has on their personal lives.

Filming is expected to last into the summer and the series will air in the autumn.
