STEYNING councillors have given thanks to former PSCO Tom Slaughter and have congratulated him on his new role as police constable.

Since 2012, Mr Slaughter has covered the parishes of Steyning, Ashurst, Upper Beeding, Bramber and Wiston.

Horsham District Councillor for Steyning George Cockman said he was ‘delighted’ about Mr Slaughter’s promotion.

“He has served us all very cheerfully and efficiently, and I wish his every success as I’m sure others who have known him will also do. Thank you, Tom,” he said.

Horsham District Councillor for Steyning Sue Rogers said: “Tom has faithfully served the people of Steyning and we shall miss him.”

Steyning Parish Council chairman Phil Bowell said: “Tom has been a significant part of the police family for us in Steyning. He will be missed.”

Horsham Neighbourhood Policing Team is now looking for a new PCSO to take over from Mr Slaughter.

Mr Cockman added: “The PCSOs play a very vital part in neighbourhood policing.

“I hope Sussex Police recognise our need for their support and in turn give them all the support and encouragement they need and deserve.”
