Council staff are rewarded for 25 years’ service

The 19 staff, who work across a diverse range of services, received £100 each and were presented with certificates by Worthing mayor Vic Walker and Adur vice-chairman Carson Albury.

The ‘thank you’ ceremony, which included coffee and cake, was held in the mayor’s parlour at Worthing Town Hall.

The staff involved served most of their 25 years at either Adur District Council or Worthing Borough Council, before the two councils began offering a joint service in 2007.

Since then, they have dealt with both councils under the partnership working scheme.

They include drivers and operatives from the refuse and recycling teams, staff from the crematorium and environmental health section through to those working with land charges, planning and leisure.

Chief executive Alex Bailey said: “Public service is very important to our communities and it is important that we recognise the service our staff have put in – collectively, in this instance, over 400 years.

“I am very proud to personally be saying ‘thank you’ to all these staff for the work they have done.

“My thanks is also on behalf of both councils, the Worthing mayor and Adur chairman, and on behalf of the citizens who they have served.

“Their work matters to real people and the commitment to serving our communities is something we should never lose.”
