COMMUNITY STARS: Worthing cycle centre owner nominated as best shopkeeper

A FRIENDLY bike shop owner has been nominated in the Best Shopkeeper category of the Herald and Gazette’s Community Stars Awards.

Customer Margaret Lovell nominated James Dowdeswell, the owner of Raleigh Cycle Centre, for the award.

Margaret, 64, of Upper Brighton Road, said: “You always get a friendly welcome and James gives a very good service on repairs.

“He tackles any job, regardless of how big or small, with a chirpy spirit which sets his business apart from others.”

James, 45, has been in the cycle trade for 27 years and has run the Chatsworth Road bike shop for 13 years. He has four part-time staff.

James said: “It’s an enjoyable job and it has been nice over the years to see people come in who I sold a bike to as a youngster and they’re now grown up and buying bikes for their own children.”
