Committee to look at 20mph bids

Steyning Primary School has presented a petition to the committee, requesting a 20mph speed limit on approach roads to both Steyning Grammar School and the primary school, which share a site off Shooting Field.

David Herson, chairman of governors at Steyning Primary School, has been asked to give a talk at the meeting, which will be held at the Steyning Centre, Fletchers Croft, on Wednesday, March 5, at 7pm.

Keeping traffic speeds down to 20mph has also been discussed in Upper Beeding.

The committee will look at the possibility of a 20mph zone or limit for the village, covering the High Street area.

Chairman David Barling said the proposal was for speed management in the village but it would not involve speed bumps.

An additional proposal for Upper Beeding will look at reducing the speed limit in Henfield Road and Shoreham Road from 40mph to 30mph.

Mr Barling has also proposed a parking management plan for Penns Court in Steyning be made one of the committee’s Traffic Regulation Order priorities.

The scheme would mean double yellow lines put in to improve access.

Also on the agenda are grant funding applications.
