The Design a Christmas Card competition is open to all, with a winner drawn in two age groups, under 16, and 16 years and over. Designs can take the form of a painting, colouring, photography or collage.

Entries can be submitted at the St Mary de Haura Christmas Fair on Saturday and the chosen designs will be sold as a St Mary de Haura Christmas Card in 2016.

Churchwarden Ian Tompkin said: “This is a great opportunity for artistically gifted and creative people of all ages within our town and community. Entries will be judged on Saturday.”

The Christmas fair takes place in St Mary’s Hall, East Street, Shoreham, from 10.30am to 2.30pm. It will be officially opened by East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton.

There will be a great variety of stalls, including books, bottles, bric-a brac, cakes, games, jewellery, raffle, tombola and toys.

The St Mary’s Handbell Ringers will provide background entertainment and refreshments will be served throughout.

Mr Tompkin said: “There will be something for all ages. It is an event providing for everyone, a good social and family day for the people of Shoreham and beyond prior to Christmas.”

Funds raised will go towards the running costs of the medieval church, which amount to £2,000 per week, with additional funds needed for the ongoing major restoration work.

Mr Tompkin said: “There are no Government grants or any external financial support available towards the running costs of our historic major parish church, which is regarded as one of the finest non cathedral parish churches within England.”
