STUDENTS performed music for a variety of tastes at Shoreham Academy’s annual Christmas concert on Monday.

Songs ranged from Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You, performed by Harvey Gogan, Oliver Rooke-Allden, Rebekah Lashley and Will Symes, to Old Maui, sung by Shoreham Academy’s Shanty Choir.

During the evening, there was also a Christmas market, held in the main atrium at the school, in Kingston Lane.

Various stalls were run by year-seven students to raise money to support those who are going to Ghana from the Academy to take part in community volunteer projects in July next year.

Acting Principal Jim Coupe said: “I am incredibly proud of all the students involved, whether performing in the concert or manning stalls at the market.

“It has been a wonderful evening and an ideal way in which to begin our festive celebrations.”

Students will also be involved in a Christmas carol concert in Shoreham next week.

The academy’s annual Christmas celebration service will be held at St Mary de Haura Church, in the town centre, on Monday at 7pm.

The traditional service, which is open to everyone, will feature songs by the Shoreham Academy Choir.

There will also be traditional hymns for the festive period and readings by Shoreham Academy students.

The concert ends at 9pm.
