Christmas appeal launched at Lancing College Chapel

A PROJECT worker spoke to 500 people at Lancing College Chapel to discuss how Christian Aid is working to save people from the devastating effects of malaria in Nigeria.

This Christmas, the UK Government will match every pound Sussex residents raise for Christian Aid’s Christmas Appeal, preventing yet more people dying needlessly from malaria.

Christian Aid partner organisations Aguata Diocesan Community Human Services (AD-CHUS) and Centre for Gospel Health and Development (CeGHaD) are providing life-saving mosquito nets and a public education programme.

Community Development Committees have been set up to ensure the government provides quality healthcare and free malaria treatments to clinics.

Dasu works for Christian Aid partner organisation Centre for Gospel Health and Development.

Dasu said: “It was great to meet the people of Sussex and share how important the health and malaria prevention work we’re doing in Nigeria is. “I’m really thankful to so many who gave to the Christmas Appeal and who partner with to by volunteering and raising money throughout the year to support the life-saving work Christian Aid do.”

Mark Rodger, the regional coordinator for Sussex, said: “Our Advent Hope Carols by Candlelight was a great success again. Having partners like Dasu speak to Christian Aid supporters is a great encouragement because they see the quality of our partner organisations and realise the money they raise really does make a huge difference to some of the most vulnerable people in our world.”

Your donation could help Christian Aid prevent many thousands of unnecessary deaths from malaria.

Just £3 could buy a life-saving net and £60 could train three community health workers to deliver the nets and life-saving health advice in their local area.

Until February 5, the UK Government will double the difference each pound donated makes, up to the value of £5 million, as part of UK Aid Match.

Sussex residents can get involved with the Christmas Appeal by contacting Mark, Sussex regional coordinator, on 020 7523 2132. Churches can download Christmas Appeal resources at www.christianaid.org.uk/christmas.
