CHRISTIAN COMMENT Killer cucumbers

They’ve been blamed for the deadly outbreak of E.coli virus which has already killed several people.

Not surprisingly, cucumbers and tomatoes are going to waste as a result of people’s fears in the wake of the uncertainty surrounding the origins of the bug.

People have apparently lost their jobs too, so it’s a serious matter – even apart from the loss of life.

When things are going well, it’s easy enough to go through life without too much thought of our own mortality.

We go through the daily grind of trying to earn a living, pay the bills and bring up the kids. Life is so busy and stressful that we don’t often have time to reflect on whether there’s any more to life or not.

Then out of the blue something strikes and all the things we took for granted are suddenly gone.

Just this afternoon I was in the car with my husband and all of a sudden a man stepped out from behind a parked van without looking.

If my husband had not been on the ball, the man could have been dead by now.

So it’s worth remembering how fragile life is.

One minute you’re here, the next you’re gone.

None of us know whether today will be our last.

We should live every day as if it’s our last and live life to the full.

Whether it’s a cucumber or a car, they can kill your body but they can’t kill your spirit.

There’s more to all of us than just our physical bodies.

What’s on offer to us all is eternal life – a restoration to the place we were originally meant to be, as children of God.

Jesus said “I have come so that you may have life – and have it to the full.”

So why not take Him up on His offer?
