ADVENTURERS are sought by a Shoreham-based charity for a fundraising hike in the French Pyrenees.

Esteem’s 87km hike takes place over five days, from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Arette La Pierre St Martin.

Deadline for applications is April 30 and the hike takes place from June 20 to 26.

The route follows stage two of the GR 10 trail, which runs the length of the Pyrenees Mountains and roughly parallels the French-Spanish border. Last year’s Esteem hike covered stage one.

Veronika Steenson, who is taking part with her husband, Mark, said: “Stage two is not for the faint hearted and it is meant to be a serious challenge that will have me feeling my fittest by the end of it.”

To take part, hikers will need to raise a minimum of £275, which includes food and board. All proceeds will go to Esteem’s future projects.

Esteem, based at The Old School House, Ham Road, offers guidance, support and personal development to young people aged 16 to 26 from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The charity combines community development and social integration with environmental and healthy-living awareness, to take a holistic approach and help young people to feel valued within society.
