The entire match had to be filmed, before Guinness was able to verify the match had taken place.

Organised by chairman of Worthing United FC Steve Taylor, it was set up after the loss of three local players - Matt Chaplain, Matt Grimstone and Jacob Schilt, two of who died in the Shoreham Airshow disaster.

Steve said: “It was confirmed yesterday after about six to eight weeks of verification so everyone is absolutely incredibly happy and we are replaying it all over again.

“We will see what happens next. We have got a couple of reunions planned so we will see if a future match may happen. We did it for the lads and it wasn’t just the 36 players, it was everyone involved and especially for Matt and Jacob, as the anniversary of the disaster is coming up.”
