Community Companions are volunteers who provide social and practical support to the hospice’s patients and their carers, and the hospice is looking for more volunteers to join the team. Community Companions come from various age groups and all walks of life. Volunteers need to have three hours a week free, access to a car and like meeting people. Full training is given together with continued support in the role. The training takes place over a couple of days at St Barnabas House in Worthing, and is run by Community Companions coordinator, Lucy Ashton.

The scheme has been running for four years and Community Companions have so far provided over 8,000 hours of support to patients and carers. To find out more, contact the Voluntary Services Team on 01903 706360 or email [email protected].
