Chairman thanks students for their input

“I had such great pleasure in hosting an afternoon tea for the principal, several teachers and some of the pupils from the Sir Robert Woodard Academy as a thank you for their truly amazing contribution to the Civic Holocaust Memorial event a couple of weeks ago,” said Cllr Mendoza.

“They are very keen to host this again on behalf of the district and plans are already underway for the 2015 commemoration event.”

Cllr Mendoza presented a civic certificate and some Adur goodies to the academy principal Peter Midwinter at the event on Tuesday, February 11.

He said that other educational establishments had also shown an interest in hosting the event in future.

The memorial ceremony itself was held in the academy’s theatre in Upper Boundstone Lane, Lancing, on January 27 and was attended by councillors, students, staff and members of the church.

Speaking after the ceremony last month, Cllr Mendoza said: “It was absolutely brilliant and very, very moving.

“I’m very grateful to the Sir Robert Woodard Academy for taking this on and was very impressed with how it went.”

Academy students played a major part in the ceremony, speaking publicly and singing.
