Car taken without consent crashes in Sompting

WITNESSES are being sought to an incident in which a car belonging to a woman in Hove was taken without consent and later crashed into a tree at Sompting.

The vehicle, a silver Vauxhall Insignia, was badly damaged in the collision, which happened at the Church Road junction with the westbound A27 in Sompting.

The incident happened at around 1.15pm on Wednesday, March 9, and police would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened. No one was injured.

A 22-year-old Brighton man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and driving while disqualified.

Another 22-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of driving other than in accordance with a licence and being carried in a motor vehicle taken without consent.

And a 23-year-old Brighton man has been arrested on suspicion of being carried in a motor vehicle taken without consent.

All three have been bailed until April 1, while enquiries continue.
