The ‘Gorilla Circus’, to be staged on Beach Green, Lancing, invites anyone from age eight upwards with a taste for adventure to have a go at one of the classes being offered.

The classes start by having people swing on the hanging bar, learning a trick or two and then having the opportunity to be caught mid-air by a catcher on a separate swinging bar.

A spokesperson from Gorilla Circus said: “Jumping off a platform 25 feet above the ground focuses the mind tremendously.

“In a lot of ways, flying trapeze involves actively suppressing our survival instincts, which puts our mind and body into intense focus.

“It’s a great escape from the stresses of daily life, as you cannot help but leave your problems on the ground as you focus entirely on climbing up the 30-foot ladder.”

For the not so brave, they can watch the troupe of Gorilla Circus, who will be staging four evening performances on the flying trapeze.

Performers will flip, twist and catch each other high in the air and show off complex tricks.

Gorilla Circus has been teaching flying trapeze since 2009. As the only flying trapeze school, students are taught by instructors who are also actively performing flying trapeze artists.

Past performances include at music festivals in the UK, including Somersault, Standon and Wilderness and a variety of shows as part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix races in Bahrain.

Classes cost £30 per person and are limited to ten people and evening performances are free to all.

The spokesperson added: “A trick usually lasts eight seconds; the mind has to make a lot of decisions in that time while hurtling through the air at great speed.

“It is very intense and rewarding.”
