Butterfly count event in Steyning

The Steyning Downland Scheme is taking part in the National Big Butterfly Count and will be joined by Dr Dan Danahar, who set up the Big Butterfly Count in Brighton five years ago and is a butterfly expert with the Sussex Butterfly Conservation Trust.

Project manager Matthew Thomas said: “We would love to see local families come and join us for an hour or so and see how many butterflies they can spot on the Steyning Downland Scheme.

“They might even see a very rare swallowtail butterfly if they are lucky. Everyone will get a butterfly count sheet and a certificate for taking part.”

Those taking part are asked to take photographs and post them on the scheme’s Facebook page.

Meet at the grass bank behind Mouse Cottage, off Mouse Lane, Steyning. The count takes place from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
