The initiative aims to enhance the cycling experience in the area.

Janice Fraser, tourism officer for Adur and Worthing councils, said: “We want to encourage businesses to welcome cyclists. All businesses need to do is agree to some simple criteria, we want to make it easy and accessible to people. The launch went really well.”

Before the launch, 15 businesses expressed interest in signing up to the scheme. Another 15 signed up at the launch and a further six have come forward since then.

Businesses need to meet certain criteria in order to display a scheme sticker in their window.

These include providing or signposting cyclists to storage or cycle parking facilities, filling up a cyclist’s water bottle, providing a puncture repair kit (provided by the scheme), providing and displaying of the Worthing Visitors Guide and the Worthing to Shoreham Cycle Route leaflet, and other information about local cycling routes and visitor attractions, and providing drying facilities for cyclist’s clothes (accommodation providers only).
