Businesses up for honours at the Sussex Food and Drink Awards

Three Steyning finalists are set to find out tomorrow evening if they are winners at the prestigious Sussex Food & Drink Awards.

The ‘foodie event of the year’ is being held at the Amex Stadium at Falmer and include a seven-course Sussex feast.

It is being hosted by Sally Gunnell OBE and the BBC’s Danny Pike. Judges have tested and tasted their way through eateries, producers, farmers, markets and food shops and reviewed thousands of votes made by food and drink lovers across the county.

Hoping to win for Steyning are Harry Goring, of the Wiston Estate in the Sussex Farmer of the Year category, the farmers market and The Sussex Produce Company for Best Food/Farm Shop. Following great debate judges are finally ready to announce their verdicts.

Chair of judges, Clive Beddall, OBE, oversaw the judges’ debate. He said: “Sussex produce is just getting better and better and is getting more famous every year in other parts of the country - we have a great deal to be proud of in this county!

“Once again, the quality and diversity of our finalists is superb and we have some exciting newcomers alongside old favourites. We are now looking forward to announcing our winners at the Sussex foodie event of the year.”

Changes were made to the voting system for the awards this year, which included introducing text voting which saw each finalist receiving about three times more votes than previous years.

There are eight awards categories.
