Natasha, who lives in Partridge Green, was a student at Steyning Grammar School until July. She achieved seven and a half GCSEs at A*, plus three and a half at A grade.

She said: “I feel so lucky to be awarded the Collyer’s bursary – I don’t think anyone realises what a difference it’ll make to me.

“Steyning was my base in which I could get the results I did and I had a good time there. Now onwards and upwards, as they say.”

Bursaries were awarded to a student from each of the key local partner schools and to those achieving top grades from schools north, south, east and west of Horsham.

Dr Johnston added: “We wanted to reward some of our new outstanding students for their academic excellence in year 11, while recognising the superb work of our excellent partner schools.

“As a ‘magnet college’ attracting students from right across the region, it was only fitting that we also rewarded students coming to us from farther afield.

“I’m sure the £500 will be put to good use to help support their education or extra-curricular activities while at Collyer’s.”

She told they students they were a credit to the ‘excellent’ schools they had attended and the teachers who taught there.
