Buff Builders calender for St Barnabas

A PAIR of builders who have been raising money for St Barnabas House hospice were hoping to raise their profile further when they appear on television.

The Buff Builders, Stephen Cranford 38, and Peter Stone, 34, appear in a new television series on Channel 5, called White Van Men, today (Friday, November 5).

Stephen said: “We got involved with White Van Men when the show’s production company phoned us in April to say they had seen our website and wanted us to take part.

“They were looking for unusual characters or something surprising about tradesmen, so we were happy for them to follow us around.”

The television crew filmed the Buff Builders for three months, sometimes on location at jobs, at the gym, at home and during the photo shoot for their new charity calendar.

Stephen added: “Buff Builders has been proving very popular, but it is seasonal, with more people requesting jobs in the summer months.

“We run the company part-time alongside our day jobs in the construction industry and we get a good reaction – we have a strict dresscode, so everybody knows where they stand.”

After appearing on ITV’s This Morning earlier this year, the Buff Builders’ website, which usually gets 80 hits a day, received more than 3,000 hits in one day.

The builders have produced a 2011 charity calendar in aid of St Barnabas House, Durrington.

Stephen said: “People often asked us if we had any photographs, so we decided to put together a calendar similar to the ones you see produced by rugby players and fire-fighters.

“St Barnabas is such a wonderful charity that everyone in Worthing might one day need to benefit from, so we are very proud to support it.”

Sloane Vaughan, St Barnabas community fund-raising manager, said: “The Buff Builders are local supporters of St Barnabas, always willing to help and enthusiastic.

“We are lucky to have them as friends of St Barnabas. We love them.”
