Broken down boat rescued

A DRIFTING boat had to be rescued after suffering engine problems throughout the day.

Shoreham RNLI inshore lifeboat launched to the broken down boat, off Worthing, at 11pm on Saturday.

The 12ft leisure boat, which initially had three people on board, had broken down earlier in the evening and had been drifting out at sea.

It was only when the tide turned that the boat was washed up the beach hours later.

When the inshore lifeboat crew found the boat, there was one one person on board, as the other two had left the boat.

The vessel was towed off the beach and the lifeboat crew started to take it back to Shoreham Harbour, where it had been launched earlier that day.

But due to the tide, the boat had to be taken through the Southwick locks. It was then left to be recovered later.
