Police were called at 7am to an incident in which a Co-op lorry crashed into the trailer of an articulated lorry parked in a lay-by overnight, spinning it around into the carriageway.

The lorry left the road and slid down an embankment.

The male driver of the lorry was cut free from the wreckage and has been taken to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

One lane of the westbound A27 will be closed until 9.30am today while the road is cleared, and both will be closed at midnight tonight while the lorry is recovered.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
