SOMPTING Big Local has rubbished claims of a conflict of interest between it and Sompting Parish Council.

But the Big Local partnership has collectively denied the claims.

“The Officers of Sompting Big Local wish it to be clearly understood that they do not perceive any attempt by Sompting Parish Council to exercise any undue influence on how Sompting Big Local seeks to use the money available for the benefit of the residents of Sompting,” a spokesman said.

The spokesman said both organisations wanted to improve things for the residents of Sompting adding that ‘an overlap in cooperation is vital to maximise the benefits’.

“It was particularly disappointing that the social media criticism of the perceived problem came through a political source,” said the spkesman, adding that Sompting Big Local was ‘non-polictical’.

“While Sompting Big Local hopes it enjoys the support of all the political parties locally, it would be a great disappointment if our efforts for the residents of Sompting were to become the subject of political point scoring,” he said.
