Arts and Crafts Festival returns to Shoreham church

Now in its 46th year, the festival runs until Sunday, August 16, and includes a great variety of stalls selling craftwork alongside the traditional paintings, drawings and photographs for which it is best known.

Janet, whose work has been performed in the West End, will launch the festival at the church, in Brunswick Road, Shoreham, at 10.30am.

The exhibition will be open 10am to 5.30pm on Saturday and August 15; 12pm to 4pm on Sunday and August 16; 2pm to 5.30pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 10am to 1.30pm Tuesday and Thursday. There will also be a dedication service on Sunday at 10.30am.

All stalls feature local artisans and their variety of handmade items, including knitted and textile goods, greetings cards and glass mosaics.

One of this year’s exhibitors is local crafter and blogger Cara Gillespie, who will be showcasing her hand printed textiles and jewellery, as well as some of her photographs.

Returning by popular demand, internationally known bass baritone Franz Hepburn will be giving a concert, including songs and arias, to suit all tastes on Saturday at 1pm.

Last year, he charmed his audience with his voice and personality. Entry is free, with a collection at the end of the concert.

Margaret Bedwell, from the organising committee, said: “Molly Harvey, who pioneered the event 45 years ago, would be surprised to know the festival continues to attract artists and visitors, even though there are more opportunities for artists and craftspeople.

“This year, we are welcoming people on two weekends as well as during the week. Refreshments will be available when you come.

“It is not too early to pick up a unique Christmas gift for a loved one and at the same time benefit a variety of national and local charities.”
