Art lecture explores war links

LINKS between art and war across Europe will be explored in the next Steyning Decorative and Fine Arts Society lecture.

Daniel Snowman, lecturer, writer, broadcaster and tour leader, will be speaking at the Steyning Centre on Monday on Guerra! Guerra! Music, Art and War: 1800-2000.

He said art had often been stimulated by war, while music included upbeat anthems like the Marseillaise and the sadness of Nimrod every year at the Cenotaph.

The society is a branch of the Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies and meets on the second Monday of each month. Members and visitors (donation £5) are invited for coffee at 10am, followed by the meeting from 10.30am to midday. Call 01903 368254 or 01903 816190 for more information.
