Musicians aged seven to 18 who live in Lancing, Shoreham, Southwick and Worthing now have the opportunity to learn to play instruments and perform at the newly-reopened Penhill Arts Centre, in Penhill Road.

Original Allstars Music, the team behind the successful Shoreham Allstars, has been working on the project with West Sussex County Council for several years.

David O’Connell, Allstars founder, said: “Over the last few years, Original Allstars Music has helped bring this refurbishment about and has secured a contract to make Penhill Arts Centre into a unique space for young people to develop their confidence, creativity and skills in the arts.”

Allstars is open to all young musicians, regardless of ability or background. Activities include instrument tuition as a band or individual, band workshops, small live gigs and events.

The team is gearing up for a busy February half-term next week, when there will be number of taster sessions available.

Mr O’Connell said: “The sessions will give young people in Lancing a chance to find out what being in the Allstars is all about, whether their interest is music, guitars, bass, drums, keyboards or singing.

Penhill Arts Centre had been empty since 2013 but it now has music lesson and rehearsal rooms, a large stage, lighting rig and space for an audience of up to 100.

“We are delighted to have a new home in Lancing,” said Mr O’Connell.

“The Shoreham Allstars has become successful on many levels – from performing at community and national events, including the Wild Life Festival, to bringing young people together to work creatively as a community – and so we are delighted to be able to build on this success and bring the same opportunities to the young people of Lancing.”
