The first Lord of Bramber fought with William of Normandy in 1066, and his son fought with Richard the Lion Heart, eventually becoming a very wealthy family under King John’s patronage. But not before William de Braose and his wife had fled from Bramber with she and their son being captured by King John, imprisoned and starved to death – quite a gruesome tale. Graphics will illustrate their ancestry and battles.

The talk is at St Peter’s Church Hall, West Street, Shoreham, starting 7.30pm. It is open to all and admission is £3 for non-members. Refreshments are available and a bar. See www.shorehamsociety.org.uk
