Adur Festival: In full swing

Adur Festival 2016 is now in full swing but there is still time to catch some great events over the next ten days.

Tonight, Piece of String Theatre is holding an empowering, enriching and fun Improvised Drama Workshop for adults at Shoreham Library.

Friday sees a joining of two legendary progressive folk bands, Pentangle and Magna Carta, at Ropetackle ,as well as an intriguing programme of film and music at West Street Loft with This Place.

The annual Adur World Oceans Day is once again on Coronation Green, Shoreham on Saturday, with environmental displays about our seashore and biodiversity for all the family to engage with. Sunday sees three Queen’s Birthday Celebrations, in Lancing, Shoreham and Southwick.

We also have some other great local choirs on board who will be popping up in unexpected and unannounced locations in a flash mob style. Keep an eye out for Coastline Harmony, The Dawn Chorus and Davison High School, who may appear behind you bursting into song when you least expect it!

Coastline Harmony is a women’s a cappella chorus singing four-part harmony, barbershop style, originally formed in 1973 and still including an original member from that time. Currently performing under the direction of Miguel Fernandes, the choir has more than 30 members and meets on Thursday evenings at Southwick Christian Community Church, Roman Crescent, Southwick. The Dawn Chorus was formed in 2013 under the direction of Julie Nye, who is part of the Natural Voice Practitioners Network with missions including celebrating the voice you are born with and building accepting communities that sing together. They are an informal, friendly and fun group where the emphasis is on singing for pleasure. They currently have 35 members and meet weekly at West Street Loft, West Street, Shoreham, on Thursdays, 9.30am to 11am. Find out more at www.singwiththedawnchorus.co.uk

Davison CE High School for Girls in Worthing has both a junior and senior choir which comprises 60 girls from years seven to 11. They love to sing a variety of material from current pop to show tunes and perform regularly at services, assemblies and concerts at school and in the local community.

Messengers Community Gospel Choir will be holding an informal workshop suitable for all ages, no experience necessary.

Raise your spirits with uplifting contemporary and traditional blues and soul songs at Shoreham Baptist Church on Saturday, June 18, 10.30am to midday. The Summer Showcase Concert the same evening is also at Shoreham Baptist Church, Entrance to both is free.
