She said while this has been
a very successful budget all round, the council must not take its eye off the ball in future years.

Councillor Angus Dunn said four years of freezing the council tax was very good news for the district.

“It’s the way that we’ve achieved it that’s more pleasing,” he said.

“We haven’t done this because we keep slashing stuff to achieve the balance budget, we’ve just restructured things, so it works better and much more efficiently and that’s where the savings are coming from.”

Councillors agreed unanimously to freeze the council tax for 2015/2016 financial year.

Mrs Gobey added that business rates have improved, with the amount up by around £40,000.

She also said the police and crime commissioner had consulted on an increase to council tax of 1.98 per cent.

Councillor Angus Dunn said he was pleased to see an increase in business rates.

“It’s starting to show that the economy is heading in the right direction locally, overall that’s very pleasing to hear,” he said.
